Why sell mini products?

A mini product is a short, bite-sized digital product that helps your ideal buyer reach a small but meaningful goal.

It can be formatted as a mini course, digital download, or even a live workshop recording, and it’s typically sold for $10-$100 USD (or up to $250ish).

And after enrolling thousands of students into both mini products and signature products (courses), I’ve learned that their differences run much deeper than price point.

If you’ve never sold courses or digital products, then here are 3 reasons why I recommend starting with a mini product:

✅ Less time needed:
Mini products can be created in 1-7 days. Signature products are typically created over 1-3 months.

✅ Easier to create:
Since there’s a lot of new tech to learn when you create & sell your first digital product, if you choose a mini course or digital download, it gives you the chance to learn those new skills on a smaller bite-sized product (rather than a larger signature product).

✅ Works with any audience size:
This is the big one. To sell a signature course, I’ve long recommended a small existing audience as a pre-requisite.

(The first buyers have to come from somewhere, and for products of that price, you often need an existing relationship.)

But because mini products are bite-sized impulse purchases, they work really well on cold traffic. So it opens our options to build your audience through selling mini products via organic, partnerships, and/or paid channels.

This also means you can start selling mini products right away, even if you don’t have an existing audience.

So whether you’re just getting started or you’re looking to scale, I think many online businesses would be great candidates to create & sell mini products.

To start, I’ll help you brainstorm and clarify all key decisions about your mini product:

  • Who is the ideal buyer?
  • What is an in-demand outcome that will attract your ideal buyer? And does it make sense as a mini course, downloadable, template, live workshop, or other format?
  • How should you price your mini product?
  • What should you name your product?

It’s also crucial to think about how your mini product fits into your bigger vision for your business. So I’ll also teach you how to map out a complete, connected Product Ecosystem that attracts and converts buyers at any stage of their journey.

What differentiates a $100 course from a $1,000 (or even a $10,000) course? In this module, you’ll learn the 3 Pricing Levers to help you confidently set your course price without leaving money on the table (or isolating buyers).

You’ll also learn about Phased Pricing and how to incorporate elements of authentic urgency and scarcity, like bonuses and special Founders’ pricing.

This phase will vary based on the product type you choose:

  • If you’re building a mini course, I’ll help you create slides, record videos, and edit with ease. I’ll also help you create a course workbook or template, if needed.
  • If you’re creating a digital download, I’ll help you create the resource and learn how you’ll deliver it to buyers automatically.
  • If you’re teaching a live workshop, I’ll offer tips about teaching live and timeblocking, as well as tech.

I’ll also recommend tools, equipment, and software at any budget to help you create with ease.

And no matter which format you choose, my goal is to help simplify the process so you can create the entire mini product within 1-2 weeks. (Possibly even a day, depending on your work style and concept.)

Choosing the right course platform is crucial, and it’s not a one-size-fits-all decision. In this module, I’ll help you analyze your unique course needs to make the right choices for your business.

For mini products, I don’t recommend using the same sales strategies you’d use for signature courses or services, since the buying decisions are so different at $10-$100 vs. $500-$1000+.

That’s why I’ll help you enroll your first buyers from your existing audience using my low-stress, low-tech Mini Launch strategy. I’ll also help you increase your average order value (AOV) through order bumps and upsells. (They’re both optional, but are worth considering to boost sales without more selling!)

In this final section, I’ll teach you how to create a 📈 Magnetic Mini Funnel that attracts ideal buyers who buy from you again and again. They engage with your product, become success stories, and become your biggest advocates to help you build your business through word of mouth.

  • I’ll cover strategies that includes organic, paid, and partnership channels. So the exact mix of marketing channels will be up to you, and no individual channel is required.
  • That said, paid ads are one of the best ways to not only sell mini products with no audience, but to actually build an audience from scratch if you’re just getting started.
  • And although this isn’t a required strategy, I think business owners of any size and revenue stage would benefit from learning how to create paid ad funnels that can drive consistent, passive income on autopilot.

FYI, these lessons don’t require prior ad experience, but the budget spend is at your own discretion. (I’ll offer suggestions on starting small and only increasing as you’re comfortable and profitable.)

But if you don’t have a scalable product (like a course or template) for your business, then you’re…

  • just sending traffic into a void where you don’t have a way to meet the needs of your audience
  • only working 1:1 where your clients own your time and your priorities always come last…and eventually you’re going to hit a point of burnout (if you’re not already there!)

Courses provide you with an amazing level of freedom. Not only financial freedom, but also…
time freedom

  • getting to choose who you work with (and declining anyone who isn’t a perfect fit)
  • being on your own schedule
  • getting to decide how to be a whole human outside of your business

So if you want to create more impact & income online (and hit those almost-mythical “I support my entire family from this” months) without having to always be tied to your services, sponsors, or 1:1 clients…then yes! I think adding one or more digital products to your business could be a great idea.

You don’t, but since Mini Masters isn’t an audience-building program, I want to be transparent about what your launch will look like if you’re starting from scratch.

If you have an existing audience (of any size), you’ll be able to launch your mini product to your existing audience to make your first sales. (The strategy is covered in-depth in Mini Masters, including suggested copy prompts and templates.) From there, we cover strategies to continue selling your product as your audience grows.

However, if you don’t have an existing audience, then you’d be creating a pre-launch product for your business. This is a great strategy for a few reasons:

  1. You’ll immediately have something for sale right when your business launches.
  2. You’ll be able to attract potential 1:1 clients by offering a low-risk bite-sized product to showcase your expertise and ability to help.

This means that you might not make sales right away, because you don’t have an audience yet. Instead, you’d publish your product and then start making sales as you build your audience (through any platform(s) of your choice).

With all of that said, if you’d prefer to build a small organic audience first – which is a great strategy! – then I want to be transparent about the fact that audience building isn’t covered in Mini Masters.

For you, I’d recommend Email Engines instead as a starting point to build a small email list and set up a solid foundation for audience attraction.

Definitely. Paid ads are just one strategy I’ll teach in Mini Masters, but it’s not a requirement, and many students don’t choose to use paid ads. (Or some choose to revisit it later.)

I’ll also talk about selling your mini product via organic channels (like social media, YouTube, blog, podcast, etc.) and partnerships.
